PUBG India Open—India’s First PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Tournament, Announced
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is becoming a global phenomenon and India has joined the party as well. In fact, it has reached a level where India’s first official PUBG tournament, PUBG India Open has been announced within 10 months of its launch in India.
GamingMonk, a Delhi-based e-sports company, will be conducting the whole event. They believe that the country has an active user base of about 1 to 2 lakh players who play it on Steam and they have PUBGs consent for hosting the tournament.
The event, which will take place on the January 7 at 3 pm IST, will have about 400 players from around the country fighting it out. Participating in the tournament requires you to sign up on GamingMonk’s website and has been setup as a solo player event. It is important to note that this event will only be available for the PC version of the game and not the Xbox One.
What makes this even more interesting is the fact that more than 20 steamers have signed up on the platform to stream the event live. There is also an observer’s team present, which will add to the spectacle.
However, to prevent participants from gaining unfair advantage over the others by watching the live stream of a match their competition in (stream sniping) a 3-minute stream delay has been advised.
The total cash prize to grab is Rs. 25,000. Even though it may be seen as a puny amount when compared to the cash prize being offered at last year’s ESL, that is, a whopping $100,000, one has to appreciate the fact that the step has been made in the direction to make this game huge success in India by virtue of this event being hosted. This will ensure that the audience for this game grows in India.
